Your Family Deserves More Than Just Getting By

If you are searching for a therapist in Laguna Niguel, something is probably asking for attention. Maybe you and your partner feel more like co-managers than partners. Maybe your kids are struggling and you do not know how to help. Maybe everyone is managing, but no one feels truly connected.

Laguna Niguel is a beautiful place to raise a family. The parks. The good schools. The proximity to the beach. But beauty does not prevent stress from building. And when both parents are running on empty, the family system starts to feel it.

Therapy can help your family move from surviving to actually thriving. I offer in-person sessions just minutes away in Mission Viejo, and online therapy throughout California.

“Katherine has been my therapist for four years. She helped me get through the hardest thing in my life. Getting a divorce from a man who I was married to for 40 years. I didn't think I would ever laugh or smile again but with the help of Katherine I am stronger than ever. I have my smile back. I am living my best life. If I was not doing good all I had to do is text her and she answered me even though it was not my appointment time or day. I always knew that I could text her no matter what time or day it was. She pulled me out of some of my darkest days thank you so much Katherine.”

The Hidden Strain of Laguna Niguel Family Life

Whether you live in Bear Brand Ranch, Beacon Hill, Kite Hill, or near Ocean Ranch Village, you know the rhythm: early mornings, school drop-offs, work, commutes to Irvine or San Diego, activities at Laguna Niguel Regional Park, homework, dinner, collapse into bed, repeat.

Many of my clients are parents who feel like they are failing even though they are doing everything they can. They snap at their kids and feel guilty. They have not had a real conversation with their partner in weeks. They love their family but feel disconnected from them.

A Saturday morning at Crown Valley Community Park can give everyone a break. A family walk near the Niguel Botanical Preserve can feel restorative. But activities together do not automatically mean connection. Sometimes families need help learning how to actually be with each other.

How I Work With Families

When one person in a family is struggling, the whole system feels it. Kids act out when parents are stressed. Partners withdraw when they feel criticized. Anxiety in one family member can ripple outward, affecting everyone's mood and behavior.

I take a family-systems approach, which means we look at patterns rather than pointing fingers. Everyone in a family is doing their best with what they have. The goal is to understand how stress moves through your household and what needs to shift so everyone can breathe.

My approach is also trauma-informed and nervous-system-aware. Sometimes family tension is rooted in things that happened long before this family existed: patterns passed down from previous generations, or individual experiences that still affect how family members relate. We can address those roots gently, without blame.

Depending on what your family needs, we might work with Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), or somatic techniques.

Family Therapy

Family therapy brings the household together to address shared challenges. This might include tension between parents and kids, a child struggling with anxiety or behavioral issues, sibling conflict, or a transition like divorce, remarriage, or a new baby.

I help families improve communication and help each person feel heard. Sometimes parents need to understand their teen better. Sometimes kids need to feel like their voice matters. Sometimes everyone needs help saying what they actually mean instead of what comes out in frustration.

For families navigating major changes, therapy can provide structure and support when everything feels uncertain.

“Katherine is fantastic! She has so much knowledge in IFS and other therapies. She's always professional and very caring. I always look forward to working with and learning from her.”

Couples Counseling

Couples counseling can help when parenting has taken over the relationship. I see this often: two people who love each other but have become so focused on the kids, the house, and the logistics that they have forgotten how to be partners.

Some couples come in because conflict has increased. The same arguments keep happening, and no one feels heard. Others come in because the problem is silence and distance. They are functioning as a team but not connecting as people.

In therapy, we slow things down. We help each person feel heard without the conversation turning into another fight. From there, you can remember why you chose each other in the first place.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy provides a space that is just for you. Many Laguna Niguel parents spend so much energy on their kids and household that they lose track of their own needs. Therapy can be a place to finally focus on yourself.

People seek individual therapy for many reasons: anxiety that will not quiet, depression, burnout, the lingering effects of your own childhood experiences, or simply needing a place to process what you are going through.

If trauma is part of your history, we approach it gently, with stabilization first.

Intentional Living Coaching

Intentional living coaching is for parents who feel like they are on autopilot. The days blur together. You are busy but not fulfilled. You wonder if this is really what you want, but there is no time to think about it.

Coaching helps you step back and examine your values, priorities, and how you want to spend your limited time and energy.

“Katherine created a space where I finally felt safe and understood. Her calm presence helped me heal in ways I didn't think were possible.”

Online Therapy

Online therapy is available throughout California. For busy Laguna Niguel parents, it can be a lifesaver. You can meet during nap time, after bedtime, or during a work break. No commute required.

For couples, online sessions mean you do not have to arrange childcare to attend therapy together.

It Is Okay to Ask for Help

Many families wait until things are really bad before reaching out. But you do not have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. If your family is functioning but not flourishing, if you are managing but not connecting, that is enough reason to seek support.

I work with anxiety, depression, parenting challenges, relationship strain, and life transitions that affect the whole family.

If you are looking for a family therapist or couples counselor near Laguna Niguel, I would be honored to support your family.
