Geography Does Not Heal. But Therapy Can.
If you are searching for a therapist in San Clemente, you are probably dealing with something that the beach town vibe cannot fix. Maybe anxiety runs constantly beneath your calm exterior. Maybe trauma from your past keeps intruding on your present. Maybe your relationship is strained, or you feel disconnected from yourself even in this beautiful place.
San Clemente draws different kinds of people: surfers and retirees, young families in Talega and Forster Ranch, and military families connected to Camp Pendleton. What many share is a tendency to push through, to handle things independently, to not make a big deal out of struggle.
I want you to know: asking for help is not weakness. It is strategy. Therapy can be a place to finally stop pushing through alone. My office is about 20 minutes north in Mission Viejo, and online therapy is available throughout California.
“Katherine is fantastic! She has so much knowledge in IFS and other therapies. She's always professional and very caring. I always look forward to working with and learning from her.”
— Client, MickThe San Clemente Experience
Whether you live near the Pier, in Talega, Forster Ranch, or closer to the Outlets, you know that San Clemente has its own character. Slower than Irvine. More relaxed than Newport. People move here for a reason: space, beauty, distance from the corporate grind.
But geography does not protect you from what you carry. Anxiety does not care about your ocean view. Trauma does not dissolve because you can hear the waves. Relationship problems do not fix themselves because you moved somewhere prettier.
San Clemente also has a significant military-connected population due to its proximity to Camp Pendleton. Military families face unique stressors: frequent relocations, deployment cycles, reintegration challenges, and the pressure to appear resilient no matter what. If you are a military spouse, veteran, or family member, I understand that context.
A morning surf can lift your spirits. A sunset at Casa Romantica can bring a moment of peace. But when what you are carrying goes deeper, you need support that goes deeper too.
How I Work
My approach is trauma-informed, which means I do not rush into the hardest material. We start with stabilization: helping your nervous system settle enough that deeper work becomes possible without overwhelming you.
Many people carry trauma they do not recognize as trauma. It might be childhood experiences that taught you the world was unsafe. It might be relationships that eroded your sense of self. It might be combat or service-related experiences that changed how you move through the world. If it still affects you, it matters.
Depending on what you need, we might work with Internal Family Systems (IFS) to understand the protective parts of you that developed for good reason, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for practical tools to manage anxious thinking, or somatic techniques to help your body release what it has been holding.
The pace is always yours. I will never push you somewhere you are not ready to go.
Individual Therapy
Individual therapy is a confidential space where you do not have to edit yourself. You can talk about the anxiety that keeps you up at night, the memories that intrude, the anger or sadness you have been suppressing, or the sense that you are not the person you used to be.
Many San Clemente clients come in because they have been managing alone for too long. They are tired but cannot sleep. They are social but feel lonely. They are functioning but feel numb.
If trauma or PTSD is part of your story, we approach it carefully. For those healing from sexual abuse or other deeply personal experiences, safety always comes first.
“Katherine created a space where I finally felt safe and understood. Her calm presence helped me heal in ways I didn't think were possible.”
— Client, SandyCouples Counseling
Couples counseling can help when the relationship feels strained. Maybe deployment or work stress has created distance. Maybe conflict keeps escalating. Maybe trust has been damaged and you are not sure if repair is possible.
For military couples navigating deployment, reintegration, or the cumulative stress of military life, I understand that civilian couples rarely know what you are going through. Therapy can bridge that gap.
I help couples slow down the reactive patterns that keep them stuck. When both people feel safe enough to be vulnerable, connection can be rebuilt.
Family Therapy
Family therapy is helpful when stress affects the whole household. For military families, that might mean helping kids adjust to a parent's return, processing a move, or addressing tension that built during deployment.
For civilian families, the focus might be on communication, teen struggles, parenting disagreements, or transitions like divorce or blending families.
I work with families to understand patterns, not assign blame. Everyone deserves to feel safer and more connected.
Intentional Living Coaching
Intentional living coaching supports people in transition. Maybe you retired from the military and are figuring out what comes next. Maybe you moved to San Clemente for a fresh start and are still finding your footing. Maybe you are simply stuck and want clarity.
This work blends reflection with practical direction, helping you build a life that feels aligned with who you are now.
“Where do I even begin. My work with Katherine has been nothing short of transformational. She has held the safest, most compassionate space for me to unravel, heal, and grow into the person I am today. The IFS work we've done together was immediately powerful and has created changes that continue to ripple through my life. Through our sessions, I've been able to do deep inner child healing that has softened parts of me that were carrying so much pain for so long. Because of Katherine, I feel more connected to myself, more grounded in my body, and more trusting of my own voice. She shows up with such presence, care, and wisdom, and I always leave our sessions feeling lighter, clearer, and more whole. I am endlessly grateful for her and cannot recommend her enough to anyone who is ready to truly heal.”
— Client, AlexisOnline Therapy
Online therapy is available throughout California. For San Clemente residents, it can be practical if the drive to Mission Viejo does not fit your schedule or if you prefer the comfort of meeting from home.
For military families who may relocate, online therapy also offers continuity. If you move elsewhere in California, we can continue working together without interruption.
You Do Not Have to Keep Handling It Alone
There is a certain pride in handling things yourself. I understand that, especially in communities where self-reliance is valued. But some things are not meant to be handled alone. Trauma. Chronic anxiety. Relationship breakdown. These deserve support.
I work with anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, relationship challenges, and the specific pressures of military-connected life.
If you are looking for a therapist in San Clemente who understands trauma and the value of meeting people where they are, I would be honored to talk with you.
